Types of PL/SQL triggers and their use cases
There are three main types of PL/SQL triggers that are commonly used:
- BEFORE Triggers: These triggers are fired before an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE operation on a table. They are often used to perform validation or data cleaning tasks before the actual operation is executed.
- AFTER Triggers: These triggers are fired after an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE operation on a table. They are typically used to perform tasks such as auditing, logging, or updating related tables after the main operation has been completed.
- INSTEAD OF Triggers: These triggers are used to replace the default action of an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE operation. They are often used in situations where you want to customize the behavior of the operation, such as enforcing complex business rules or implementing custom data handling logic.
Each type of trigger has its own specific use case and can be leveraged to enhance the functionality and performance of your PL/SQL applications.
