Dealing with Difficult Team Member - Conflict Resolution Example
During my previous role as a project manager, I encountered a situation where one of my team members consistently missed deadlines and caused disruptions in our project timeline. The focus keyword here is "difficult team member".
To address this issue, I first scheduled a one-on-one meeting with the team member to discuss their performance and understand any underlying reasons for their behavior. By actively listening and providing constructive feedback, I was able to uncover that the team member was struggling with personal issues that were affecting their work.
After discussing possible solutions, we agreed on setting smaller achievable goals, implementing a check-in system for progress updates, and providing additional support and resources when needed. I also held team meetings to emphasize the importance of collaboration and the impact of one team member's performance on the overall project success.
By addressing the root cause of the conflict and implementing a structured plan for improvement, the team member was able to overcome their challenges and contribute positively to the team. This experience taught me the significance of effective communication, empathy, and conflict resolution skills in managing difficult team members within a team.
