Role Hierarchy vs Sharing Rules in Salesforce
Role Hierarchy and Sharing Rules are both mechanisms in Salesforce that control access to data. Here is the difference between the two:
Role Hierarchy:
The Role Hierarchy in Salesforce is a way to establish a chain of command and levels of access within an organization. Users are assigned roles based on their position or responsibilities in the organization. Higher-level roles have access to records owned by users in lower-level roles. This hierarchy helps in determining who can view or edit certain records based on their role in the organization.
Sharing Rules:
Sharing Rules in Salesforce are used to extend access to records that a user does not own. These rules are created to give specific groups of users access to certain records based on criteria defined by the Salesforce administrator. Sharing Rules are used to provide exceptions to the default access settings based on the organization's specific requirements.
While Role Hierarchy establishes a structure of access based on user roles, Sharing Rules are used to grant additional access to specific records based on defined criteria.
