Difference between Pinned Support and Fixed Support in STAAD Pro
In STAAD Pro, a pinned support and a fixed support are two types of support conditions used in structural analysis. The main difference between the two is the degree of freedom they allow at the support location.
A pinned support restricts movement in the horizontal direction, allowing rotation but no translation. This means that the structure can rotate at the pinned support but cannot move horizontally.
On the other hand, a fixed support completely restricts both translation and rotation at the support location. This means that the structure is fully fixed and cannot move or rotate at the fixed support.
When modeling a structure in STAAD Pro, it is important to accurately define the support conditions to ensure accurate analysis results.
