Tell us about a time when you had to handle a difficult patient or family member and how you resolved the situation
Handling difficult patients or family members is a common challenge in the nursing profession. During my nursing career, I encountered a situation where a patient's family member was upset and emotional due to their loved one's condition.
To resolve the situation, I first listened attentively to the family member's concerns and empathized with their feelings. I assured them that their loved one was receiving the best possible care and provided updates on the patient's condition.
I then involved the healthcare team in the discussion to address any medical concerns the family member had. By keeping the family member informed and involving them in the care process, I was able to build trust and alleviate their anxiety.
Communication, empathy, and teamwork were key in handling this difficult situation, and ultimately, it led to a positive outcome for both the patient and their family member.
