What is the difference between a Sales Order and a Delivery Document in SAP SD?
In SAP SD, a Sales Order is a document created by a company to capture customer sales requirements. It includes information such as the products or services ordered, quantities, prices, delivery dates, and payment terms. The Sales Order initiates the sales process and serves as a reference for subsequent steps.
A Delivery Document, on the other hand, is created once the goods or services in the Sales Order are ready to be delivered to the customer. It includes details such as the delivery location, shipment date, and quantities of items being shipped. The Delivery Document is used to track the actual delivery of goods or services to the customer.
How are Sales Orders and Delivery Documents related?
Sales Orders and Delivery Documents are closely related in SAP SD. When a Sales Order is created, it serves as the basis for the subsequent creation of a Delivery Document. The Delivery Document can only be generated once the Sales Order has been processed and the goods or services are ready for delivery.
Once the products have been delivered, the Delivery Document confirms the completion of the sales process initiated by the Sales Order. Both documents are linked in the system, allowing for seamless tracking of the sales transaction and maintaining accurate records of customer orders and deliveries.
